Job Summary

Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center strives to the be the premier organization that provides a diverse array of social services that advance the quality of life for children and families.  The Parent Advocate will provide a successful, safe, and supervised educational setting for parents and their children. Maintains on-going contact with families and works with all other components (children's division, courts, health, nutrition, family services, mental health, special services, parent education and resource/referral) to integrate services into the family setting.

Shift: M - F, weekends vary.  


  • Meet the needs of all children; including those who are at risk, those with special needs, those who are gifted, and those who are culturally diverse.
  • Promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Individualize one-to-one and group activities to reflect the unique needs and strengths of all children in the classroom.
  • Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making.
  • Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement.
  • Work with appropriate agencies in developing specialized planning for children/families as needed.
  • Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
  • Maintain accurate written/electronic records; including pre/post assessments, special education documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal observations, and other required forms.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all components.
  • Meet regularly with parents, and other staff regarding each child's status and progress.
  • Conduct regular home visits for purposes of assessment and support, and to share information on parenting, educational strategies, and classroom progress.
  • Plan and conduct regular parent meetings with team members.
  • Assess individual and family needs, attending to special needs, specific interests, strengths and concerns.
  • With parental involvement, develop balanced daily plans, which are developmentally appropriate, and address each child's specific strengths and needs.
  • Works towards timely reunification of parent and child.
  • Establish daily and weekly goals, which will promote individual and group educational plans.
  • Monitor clients on weekends in respite facility.
  • Prepare classroom materials and supplies to support daily plans; change materials in learning centers as needed.
  • Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for families as identified in their individualized education plans.
  • All other duties as assigned


  • Associate's degree or 60+ hours of college credit in the human/social services field, Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience working with youth and families. Knowledge of community resources and child welfare services.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral experience assisting families in need of services is highly desirable
  • Must have flexible schedule to accommodate family needs, may include some evening or weekend hours.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet and e-mail.
  • Must have a valid Missouri Driver's License and proof of insurance and must provide own vehicle for home visits.
  • Must possess a Class E Driver's License upon hire or obtain within 30 days of employement.
  • Experience in parenting, working with parents/ children, and establishing a stable household is preferred.
  • Dealing with sensitive topics in a professional manner and being able to help families navigate successfully through stressful moments.
  • Knowledge of state child protective systems to include but not necessarily limited to Department of Social Services Children's Division, Family, and Juvenile Court.
