Annie Malone Children and Family Services strives to improve the quality of life for children, families, older adults, and the community by providing social services, educational programs and advocacy.


JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Parenting Program Manager, the Youth Specialist provides a safe 24-hour environment for children birth to 17 with intervention measures to immediately alleviate crisis by providing emergency shelter, food, clothing, educational needs, conflict resolution, emergency medical attention, and counseling services to prevent child abuse and neglect.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend staff meetings to develop strategies that correct problem areas designed to meet the needs of individual clients;
  • Contribute information and comments based on personal observation of client's behavior and responses in different situations;
  • Ensure that all documentation is complete prior to leaving shift;
  • Responsible for preparing and serving meals, setting table and teaching clients table manners and etiquette.
  • Must complete paperwork for after hour intake and discharge procedures for clients.
  • Utilize the daily schedule of activities and client's reaction to them and to the group with which he/she is associated as an opportunity to implement a behavior/treatment plan;
  • Assist in developing strengths-based interventions to meet client needs;
  • Ensure that youth's needs for food and clothing are met. Report any health problems observed;
  • Responsible for any crisis intervention/respite duties that are necessary and would occur during your shift;
  • Responsible for writing up incidents, having them reviewed;
  • Report, in writing, anything observed that may cause a problem and/or is a safety issue for clients and staff. This includes vehicles, building repairs, parking lots and alarm systems;
  • Transport youth to and from school, recreation and all activities in Annie Malone vans;
  • Ensure that required areas (dorms, kitchen, bathrooms, activity room, etc.) are cleaned, supplies are replenished and/or complete "Work Request Form" if necessary for repairs and/or safety issues that have been identified.
  • Must attend all staff meetings and trainings. This is mandatory unless approved by CEO;
  • Utilization of the agency's televisions, radios, tape recorders, cell phones for personal use is forbidden during duty period;
  • All other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in counseling, psychology, criminal justice or related field preferred. HS diploma or GED required. However, requires any combination of training and experience in dealing with problems of clients, preferably under professional guidance.
  • Ability to evaluate and work effectively with youth with emotional and behavioral problems; have patience and understanding with children; develop a sensitivity to the emotional needs of children; understand and implement a treatment/behavioral plan for disturbed, handicapped or behavior related youth.
  • Must possess a Class E Driver's License and current auto mobile insurance for transporting clients.
  • Ability to work weekdays and weekends.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Located in resident building. Will need to transport clients to activities or other appointments via agency vehicle.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The physical requirements of this job includes: sitting, standing, walking; lifting up to 100 lbs, pulling and/or pushing on occasion.

Crisis Program Youth Specialists must also be able to perform all Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certified physical intervention techniques to provide crisis intervention and for annual certification.
